The long awaited result of the Men’s B final at Boatrace has been released by Row South Africa (RowSA). Unfortunately, it denies the Rhodes University Rowing Club the chance to claim a full sweep. The official winners of the race are the Stellenbosch crew. Rhodes appealed the decision made on the day of the finals to re row the Men’s B final. “It was a written appeal sent to the SASSU Rowing executive with photographs taken during the race” said Sasha Stevenson, Rhodes’ club chairperson. The SASSU executive turned down the appeal and it was then sent to RowSA and reviewed by the chairperson of the South African Rowing Officials Commission. The appeal was turned down again and Stellenbosch declared the official winners of the Men’s B division. The Rhodes Rowing Club still feel they can claim an full sweep and the Men’s B crew feel they can claim the victory even if it is not the official decision.
