The Rhodes Internal League Soccer started with a bang on Wednesday 9 April, with teams from both Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ battling it out for an early lead in the race for the championship title.

In Group ‘A’, the ever powerful Black Gold held a 4 – 4 draw with Raw Materials in what was a very exciting match, while Zimsoc were beaten 2 – 0 by Panush FC. Group ‘B’ saw Cory/Matthews thump De Beers, 4 – 1, and Graham were just beaten by Mzansi Warrior, 3 – 2.

Games were also held on Friday 11 April, in Group ‘A’ AK47 beat Winchester 2 – 1 in a close match, and Fantastic 11 were beaten by KDFC, 3 – 1. In Group ‘B’, Guy Butler were too strong for M.S.A., out muscling them with a 5 – 0 thrashing. The Oppi team were beaten 3 – 1 by Oakdene.

A large crowd of eager soccer fans turned out to support their favourite teams. Tashin don Moodley, a MSA soccer player said, “I was surprised to see a lot of people coming to support their teams. It added more flavour to the game.”

The next matches are on Monday 14 April, which will see KDFC going up against Panush FC, Winchester versus Fantastic 11, Salisbury facing Cory/Matthews and Oakdene playing against Graham. Let’s hope this is an action-packed season, filled with thrills and spills.
